I have been hearing a rattle or pinging metal noise when i speed up in my new 2024 HRV. its tough to catch since the cabin blocks out most engine sound but its there. This shouldn't be normal. I have only driven 1200 miles and itsbeen doing this since day one. i fill up with 87 octane Sunoco top-tier gas so i doubt it needs higher octane. anyone else hearing this in their HRV??

If your hrv is still under warranty i would suggest to contact the dealer, they'll be able to determine if it's a mechanical or engine issue. it can be engine knocking, an issue with the exhaust system, or a loose part like a heat shield but then again, they'll determine what's the actual problem.

agree with @thecashregister above. try to document it too, like record the sound on your phone and let them know when it usually happens. good luck with this! let us know how it goes

Never had that experience, but the fact that this happened since day 1 tells me you urgently need to contact and bring it to your dealer, and like goldenstag said you really need to document it too to avoid a lot of explaining and convincing and just get it on to fixing.

I would suggest trying and experimenting with a higher-octane fuel simply because some engines may benefit from a higher octane, especially if they have a turbocharged engine or higher compression ratios.

Pretty sure its a mechanical problem, but yes, either way its best to contact the dealer. Accelerator is whats on top of my mind though

1200 miles is way too soon for some pinging noise!! Hope you've taken your car to the dealer like everyone suggested!

Yeah, I'm sure it's under warranty, right? Have you taken the car to the dealer?
