Why do I have to step on gas pedal for my HR-V to move? 🤔

So, I bought a brand new 2025 HR-V EX-L. The cars that I had before, they all moved whenever I released the brake. That's the way I know how to drive. Lifting the brake slowly then pressing the gas slowly till I get my desired speed. And today, I just realized, this car does not move at all if you do not step on the gas! It moves really fine when I step on the gas already, but I'm just not used to this. Why? Even when I release the brake at an inclined parking, it doesn't move? Is that a normal thing for the brand new HR-Vs? Is that a feature I should know about? Please help because I'm rather confused.

refer to your manual, if not mistaken i think its a feature called automatic break hold. theres a switch to toggle it on or off. You can check their mygarage website for the online manual if ever you cant find or too lazy to look for the hard copy

Oh, thanks for reminding. I have rather forgotten about it. Yes now that I figured it's really not gonna move unless I disable it. I'll try disabling but I am not sure how I can go about that. I'd prefer that it's disabled for my safety.

that sounds like one of those car features they add where you're not sure if it's progress or just overthinking basic stuff. like, we all managed to park and drive fine before automatic brake hold was invented, right? but if that's the case then stepping on the gas makes sense since it's preventing the car from rolling or moving on its own but if you want it off maybe digging through the manual or even the settings screen might be faster than finding answers on forums. even though forums are way more fun for venting about features we didn't ask for or need. but seriously what happens when tech gets too helpful to the point of being a hassle?

Yeah, that's normal for the new hrv. It's got brake hold and hill start assist, so it won't roll unless you give it gas. A lot of newer cars with CVTs don't creep forward like older automatics. Takes some getting used to, but nothing's wrong with your car
