Tailgate plastic cracked

I was hauling my lawnmower for its yearly service and forgot to strap it down right. When I pulled off, it slid back and cracked the inner plastic on the tailgate. I've checked out some plastic repair kits online, but I'm not sure which one's reliable

I'm leaning toward a DIY for now just to save some cash. I'll look into that Dorman kit, I didn't know they made one specifically for tailgate repairs

I don't think you need a full kit. For a simple crack, you can get a good result with just a strong, two part epoxy designed for plastics.
The real key is to clean the area thoroughly and then rough up the plastic on the backside with some sandpaper to give the adhesive something to grab onto.
From there, you can apply the epoxy and maybe even reinforce it with a small piece of mesh or another piece of plastic on the back. It won't be a perfect 'weld,' but it'll be more than strong enough for a tailgate panel

Absolutely agree, cleaning is the key. Use rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or grease. The epoxy won't stick well to a dirty surface. The sanding on the backside gives the adhesive teeth to grip onto
